This month, we’re reading North and South. Heroine Margaret Hale’s life changes forever when she has to leave her beloved country home in the south of England for the smoky, industrial city of Milton. North and South is a Pride and Prejudice-adjacent love story about pushing aside your preconceptions and seeing the world from other points-of-view – but it’s so much more than that. Elizabeth Gaskell’s seminal social novel explores The Industrial Revolution and its impact on the working class and the cultural, social & geographic divisions between the North & South of Victorian England.
